Fundraising Activities & Contests

Golf season is finally here!  Looking to help fuel fun and raise funds at your upcoming event?  Then you’re going to love this post.

There are undoubtedly many objectives you’re looking to fulfill this year when it comes to your upcoming fundraising golf tournament.  Raising money for your cause will obviously be your #1 priority.  You’ll definitely want to offer value to your sponsors, attract new players to your organization (and get them to come back next time!), as well as increase overall revenue from players and sponsors alike.  But how do you go about achieving this?

We have one word for you: activities!

All kidding aside, it’s important to have both golf and other fun activities and contests spread throughout your event — before, during, and even, after.

Before your event, it’s a great idea to hold a raffle featuring donated prizes.  These prizes can be anything from free rounds of golf, vacation/travel packages to great golf destinations or even a colossal cash prize!  Just have everyone donate a few bucks to have their name put into the raffle.  It’s a simple, yet effective way of fundraising.  You can also sell a variety of logoed merchandise at the event!  From golf balls, clothing and even customized towels, you’ll be surprised as to just how many people will be interested in purchasing your goods — especially when it’s going to a good cause!  Still not convinced of the value these activities have?  How about holding a qualifying round for an insured putting contest where players can win up to $50,000!  After you’ve qualified your players, bring them back at the end of the event to take a shot (or rather, “putt”) at a great prize!  Feel free to charge your participants $x to enter the qualifier.  Facing time restraints?  Call upon your good friend ‘raffle’ to save the day and make the qualifying process a breeze!  Also, be sure you have any events/contests and sponsors adequately promoted with the help of golf contest signage.

Tune in again next Friday for  more activities and contests that you can run during and after your event!

Selling Sponsorships At Your Golf Tournament (Part 1 of 3)

In this day and age, it’s surprising how many golf committees don’t utilize sponsorships in a way that could get them the most bang for their buck.  Which is why Hole In One International is here to help give you some great tips on selling sponsorships at your next golf tournament!

Offer a Vast Variety of Sponsorship Options
Sure, chances are you’re working on securing hole and title sponsors… but were you aware of all the other types of sponsorships that are out there?  Beverage sponsors, donation sponsors (who contribute to your raffle/auction items), trade/barter sponsors, contest/event sponsors… the possibilities are endless!  It’s important that after you build your sponsorship list(s) that you also build a prospect list and categorize them appropriately — you’re obviously not going to want to approach your favorite locally-owned deli to inquire about them being your Title Sponsor… although you might want to consider having them as your lunch sponsor!  Having issues finding prospects for sponsor leads?  Be sure to consult with individuals who are already advertising locally in your area, previous event sponsors, area chamber members, current suppliers, etc.  Internet research is also valuable, as you’ll gain insight as to any new companies in your area that have opened up.  Be sure to list out all of the benefits and features of each package in detail — sponsor signage is a great addition, as it will give your committee an added opportunity to sell more sponsorships!

There’s more where that came from: stay tuned for part 2 of Selling Sponsorships At Your Golf Tournament for more helpful tips.  If you have any further questions, feel free to give Hole In One International a call at 800-827-2249 or email us any time!

Make a Hole In One, Win Your Weight In ____.

Looking for some unconventional hole in one prize ideas for your next golf tournament?  Look no further — we have a great story on one and a few unique suggestions for you!

Have you heard about pro golfer Elliot Saltman?  Saltman, who scored an ace during the second round at the Madrid Masters on Friday, October 7th, won a unique hole in one prize that day… his body weight in ham!  According to the European Tour Media Guide, Saltman weighs an estimated 235 pounds.  (That’s 235 lbs. of ham – wow!)  Cured and salted ham is considered a delicacy in Spanish culture and the jamón ibérico ham he won is valued at approximately $52/pound!  That means Saltman’s ham prize was worth $12,220!

Here are some other great weight-based hole in one prize ideas you can use:

1.)  Your weight in silver
Sure, the ability to boast and brag about your hole in one is a prize in itself, but imagine living your life in luxury should you ace a prize hole and win your weight in silver!  And by using websites such as SilverPrice.com, you’ll have the ability to hold on to all of that silver and monitor the cost until it peaks — then cash in on your newfound riches, should you choose to do so!

2.)  Your weight in canned goods to donate
For all you humanitarians out there, this one’s for you! There’s nothing quite like the gift of giving.  Make a hole in one, score enough canned goods to feed hundreds of families!  Did you know that a small can of soup weighs approximately 10.5 ounces?  If you weigh 150 pounds, that’s about 229 cans you’ll be able to donate!

3.)  Your weight in sporting goods
If you play the game of golf, then chances are you’re a sports fan in general.  Which is why giving away an individual’s weight in sporting goods would be a great choice for an offbeat hole in one prize!  Golf clubs, soccer balls, footwear, camping gear… the possibilities are endless!  Make a hole in one, score all types of sporting loot!

Whether you’re looking for more great hole in one prizes ideas or if you’d like a quote based upon any of the above, feel free to give us a call and we’ll get you a free, no-obligation quote!  All we need is the number of players in your event, the yardage of the hole you plan on using and of course… the value of the prize!  Call us today at 800-827-2249 or email us!

Straightest Drive Contest: Fundraising Contest Idea #5

The Straightest Drive Contest
Like the longest drive contest, you should choose a hole that is pretty straight and long for your straightest drive contest.

For this charity golf contest, you will want to place a chalk line running down the center of the fairway. The golfer who hits the ball closest to the line is declared the winner.

As with your other golf contests, this one represents an opportunity to sell a tournament sponsorship, complete with a sponsor sign.  Have a digital copy of a logo that you’d like us to apply to the sign? Email it over and we’ll do so for no extra charge!

Increase Sponsorship Sales with a Closest to the Pin Contest

The Closest to the Pin Contest
Like the hole in one contest, a closest to the pin contest is also traditionally held on a par 3 hole and frequently on the same hole as a hole in one contest.

As you have probably guessed, the golfer who hits the ball closest to the hole is the winner. You’ll want to have a measuring tape near the green so you can measure any shots are very close.  And as with the longest drive, you should plan on having one contest for men and one for women.

As with all of the other contests, running a closest to the pin contest is yet another opportunity to sell a sponsorship and a golf tournament sponsor sign, which helps raise additional money for your charity.
