Public Golf Courses vs. Private Golf Courses

Debating on whether to hold your golf tournament at a public or private golf course?  Not sure which would be the best fit for your organization?  Read on as we highlight the main features of both types of courses and by the time you’re finished reading this blog post, you’ll be able to make some informed decisions!

Public Golf Courses

Pros:

  • Less expensive than a private course
  • Easier access to the facility (no membership needed)
  • Gives you the ability to find/support lesser-known courses and find the smaller ‘gems’ in your area

Cons:

  • Usually not as well-managed/maintained as private golf courses
  • Does not offer as many feaures or ammenities as a private course
  • More crowded than a private golf course

Private Golf Courses

Pros:

  • More features/amenities (i.e. showers, restaurants, private lessons, massages, etc.)
  • Better maintained and generally more scenic
  • Less crowded; higher chance of having the course to yourself

Cons:

  • Requires monthly membership fees; more expensive than public golf courses
  • Limitation of play (not as open or available as a public golf course)
  • If you eventually find that you’re not enjoying your experience, you’re locked into a membership

A happy medium between the two would also be a high-end golf resort.  These golf resorts will sometimes host charity golf events at no charge, so it’s definitely worth looking into!

Insuring A Hole In One In Mexico

Mexican Flag image¿Vive usted en México? (Do you live in Mexico?)  Great news: you can still insure your next hole-in-one, million-dollar shootout and/or putting contest through Hole In One International!  That’s because we provide insurance in any English or Spanish-speaking country!

Just be sure to properly advertise your prize value on your complimentary golf signage when you purchase your policy with us!  Since all of our prizes are paid out in USD, it’s important to make sure your ‘jugadores’ (players) know the exact amount they’ll be winning!  While you’re free to advertise your prize value in USD (e.g. “$10,000 USD”), you can also make it easier for everyone and advertise the same prize value in pesos (e.g. “127,274 MXN” -or- “127,274 pesos”), so long as it’s an accurate conversion.

That’s right — all of our signs are able to be shipped to Mexico!  Just contact our shipping department for pricing details!

Have any other questions about holding a hole in one contest, putting contest, or million-dollar shootout contest in Mexico?  Have questions about international shipping fees?  Feel free to give us a call at 800-827-2249 or send us an email.  We’d be happy to answer all of your questions!

¡Buena suerte!

Insurance Underwriting

If you’ve ever shopped around for hole in one insurance, chances are you’ve come across the terms ‘underwriter’, ‘underwritten’, ‘underwriting’ or some variation thereof.  Today we’re going to cover what underwriting actually is, as well as how it directly benefits you: the hole-in-one insurance, Million Dollar Shootout and/or putting contest consumer.

What is Underwriting?
Put simply, underwriting refers to the process that any large financial service provider uses to assess the eligibility of a customer to receive their products (in this case, insurance).

Insurance underwriters assess the clients’ risk and decide how much coverage the client should receive, how much they should pay for it, or whether or not to insure them. Insurance underwriting involves measuring risk exposure and determining the premium that needs to be charged to insure that risk.

Hole In One International and its sister company Odds On Promotions both offer a special form of insurance underwriting known as prize indemnity insurance.

In the realm of prize indemnity insurance, it’s extremely important to make sure the company you’re working with is underwritten; otherwise, you as a client/consumer, could risk a winner not being paid out the money for their hole-in-one and/or putt… regardless of the fact that you have paid a premium for the insurance policy.

Unfortunately, this circumstance is a reality and we have seen it happen to winners who participated in a golf tournament insured by hole in one insurance companies who were not underwritten.

How Do I Know If The Company I’m Working With Is Underwritten?
If you’re unsure if the company you’re working with is underwritten, the simplest and most effective way of knowing is to simply call and ask!  You can also look for underwriting information on the company’s website.  Ours, for example, is located on our FAQ, as well as at the very top of our main homepage.

That’s Great … But How Does That Benefit Me?
With A-rated underwriting, you’ll have the peace of mind knowing that your hole-in-one and/or putting contest insurance coverage is valid and 100% covered.

Fundraising Activities – pt 2.

Last week, we went over activities and contests to help you fundraise before your golf event.  This week it’s all about what can take place during and after your event!  Read on for more pointers!

During your event, a great fundraiser to hold is a Par 3 Challenge.  Every golfer loves some good competition – not to mention the chance to show off, which is why this contest is so great.  Have one person bet their team $x that they can get their ball on the green with a single swing.  If they miss, that money will go to charity; if they make it, they can either get their money back, receive a discount at the pro shop… or both!  Another great idea is to have each team on the golf course purchase a Long Drive and have a local Long Drive champion there on the course with them.  Depending on who wins (the player or the ‘champ’), half of the money put into the contest will go to the victor, while the other half goes to charity!  Don’t you just love it when everyone’s a winner?

After your event is the ideal time to hold a Million Dollar Shootout.  Once again, charge players $x to get in on a raffle, draw a random name and have that person try and make a hole in one for a whopping $1,000,000!  After the event is also a great opportunity to hold a silent auction, which can be set up prior to the event.  Be sure to post up sign-up sheets for next year’s event and give players a discount off of the regular rate if they register on the spot… or an additional discount if they pay right there and then!

Looking for more contest ideas to help you fundraise at your next event?  Feel free to call us at 800-827-2249… or email us!  We’d be happy to help!
